Welcome to the OU Writing Center's Appointment Scheduling System

The Oakland University Writing Center offers both face-to-face and synchronous (real time) virtual consultations for students, faculty, and staff in all disciplines at any stage of the writing process. Sessions are staffed by well-trained consultants who help both novice and expert writers explore ideas, examine appropriate evidence, revisit organization, apply style guides, etc. Whether you are a nursing student, an engineering major, a future teacher, an entrepreneur, a prospective scholarship recipient, a graduate dissertation writer, or a faculty member preparing for tenure review, learn more about the writing center by visiting Oakland University's "Write Space," located at 212 Kresge Library, and on the web at www.oakland.edu/ouwc. Virtual Consulting 

WCOnline is used to access all online appointments. Upon entering, the client and the consultant can use its video conferencing software or move to Google Meet and Google Docs, etc. Because we are meeting clients at their technology comfort level, for some sessions that might mean the writer emails the document to the consultant’s WC email (not the consultant’s personal email) and they use the phone to discuss it. That decision will be made once the writer enters the appointment via WCOnline. Please see our Client Guide to the Online Appointment and/or our Video Tutorial.  

Services to Help Writers with Access and Questions

To help navigate scheduling and technology issues, we offer reception help in one of two ways as follows:

  • If you need help during our Face to Face hours, call (248) 370-3120. 

  • If you need help when our staff is online, please email us at ouwc@oakland.edu.

Moreover, we host a Virtual Help Desk for writing questions that do not require a full appointment. If no one is available when you log in, simply fill out a request and a consultant will respond within 24 hours.
